From Polar Bears to Great Gray Owls: How THC Gear Keeps This Photographer Warm

Tell us about a time your THC gear saved the day!
My wife and our good friend flew to Minnesota in February of 2025 to photograph winter birds including great gray owls and it was insanely cold! It got to be less than -20 degrees and I was the only one of the three with The Heat Company products, and I was consequently the most comfortable. The combination of the Durable Liner Pro and the Shell Full Leather worked really well for me. It allowed me to be out photographing in very extreme conditions and get the shots I was looking for.
What unique weather conditions have you faced with your THC gloves?
Extreme Minnesota winter cold conditions and early winter on the Hudson Bay photographing polar bears. I only included the Minnesota owls in February but I have images of polar bears and THC products as well.
What's one cold-weather activity you can't wait for every year, and what gear do you consider must-have to fully enjoy it?
Winter birding looking for owls in the northern states and Canada!
What makes THC gloves your go-to gear for cold weather?
They are by far the most reliable. I've tried a variety of other gloves including heated gloves and I have settled on THC combination of glove liners and shell to be my go to when it gets to be insanely cold. They provide full functionality for using my cameras and they just work. And just as importantly they don't get in the way. I'm not fumbling to use my camera with unwieldy mittens or other cumbersome products.
Would you recommend our cold-weather gloves to your friends?
Photographing sunrise and vaporizing boiling water at -38°F while dogsledding in Ely, Minnesota, on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area is no easy task.
I use my Polartec Pro Liner gloves when I am actively rowing and switch to the Heat Smart Pro 3 when sitting and waiting for the right conditions. Without my gloves, I simply would not be able to get my shots.
